Greenwood Acres Community Garden
Not quite a horn of plenty but certainly an indication of green thumbs at Greenwood Acres this year. The picture below displays some of the fruit and vegetables from the Community Garden boxes which so far has raised about $40 in donations for the The Jackson County Animal Shelter.
A new "seed" was planted in 2013 with the idea of raised garden beds for a community garden.
There are seven 4' x 4' raised beds available for seasonal campers to cultivate and two 4' x 6' plots for the campground community. The raised beds are assigned as "first come, first served", with the idea that you will commit to the care of the bed the entire season.
Volunteers and participants are needed for the 2014 garden. If you wish to be a part of this growing activity; share some ideas and gardening tips, please email us at email@example.com (subject line garden). More information will follow after the new year.
Greenwood Acres Campers Raised More than $54,000 In Two Years for the American Cancer Society
Each season the campers of Greenwood Acres Family Campground host various events to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). During the 2011 & 2012 camping seasons, these dedicated campers generated more than $27,000 for each year.
One of their many fundraisers is called "Cans 4 Cancer" which they raised nearly $14,000 in two years from empty, returnable beverage containers (from the campground alone).
